You need very little to turn your home into a unique and original space!
It's not the only one. But, if there is a really effective tool to always succeed when combining colors, that is the so-called color wheel. You already studied it at school, but in case you don't remember, we will refresh you on what it consists of. It is the graphic representation that organizes the colors in a wheel divided into segments. There are different versions, which add more or less complementary shades, but in all the base are the three primary colors (red, yellow and blue) and the three secondary ones (green, orange and violet).
Although, as far as we are concerned, to combine colors and create a harmonious decoration, there are basically three formulas. You can choose between opposites, contiguous or different intensities of the same color. With the opposites you get very striking contrast effects. Very clear examples are the combinations of violets and yellows or oranges and blues. What is achieved is dynamism. That is why it is especially recommended for children's or youth rooms.
If you decide on tones that appear next to the wheel, you bet on harmony. Greens and blues, oranges and yellows, even yellow and green. This option will use up to three consecutive colors. Of course, one must be the dominant one. And with the chromatic range of a single color in different intensities you opt for the sure hit, although you run the risk of falling into a boring decoration if you do not introduce intense tones.
Whatever choice you have opted for regarding the type of colors you combine, the key is in the proportions. In interior design, there is a norm for calculating these quantities that is very effective. That is to say, your main color must occupy 60% of the decorated space and the secondary 30%. Finally, 10% is reserved for a third color that will mark the details.
By the way, you may have noticed that we never talk about more than three colors. And it is that, using a greater amount is a decorative error, you only manage to recharge the environment and that any effect that you wanted to recreate is lost. The only case in which it is possible to decorate using 4 colors is when one of your chosen ones is a neutral tone.
Another of the elements that is most useful for clarifying and correcting any choice in the color combination is the use of neutral tones. We mean of course the White. But also gray, beige, brown or black. If these colors are characterized by something, it is precisely because they do not compete with others. As a consequence, they combine with the entire color palette. They provide a subtle and elegant touch in the spaces where they are placed.
But, the problem with these low saturation shades is that they create very boring, personalityless, even sad environments. However, if they are the ones you like, break that monotony by playing with different textures or very different materials. This way you will create those contrasts that are so interesting in decoration.
Bedrooms, living rooms and even kitchens, any room in your home deserves that decorative touch that is achieved if you are able to combine colors correctly. On the website of Xarxa Homes you can find some examples in all styles. Because each of our homes it is a different and exclusive project.
